6,481 articles of clothing and 479 articles of bedding were
fumigated.
Scabies.—62 adults and children have been dealt with. Where
possible, instead of having persons brought to Station, instructions are
given so that baths may be given at home, and where no convenience
for this exists, portable baths have been lent. This method has proved
extremely satisfactory. The majority of the cases have been in families
of soldiers or of refugees. In the supervision of this work 82 visits
were paid to the houses.
Verminous Houses.—In addition to the school cases, 243 notices
were served by the Sanitary Inspectors with reference to vermin in
houses: 608 rooms were fumigated with sulphur by the Council's staff.
From 284 houses 7,079 articles were stoved, and 1,420 destroyed on
account of their verminous condition.
The total number of articles of clothing, bedding, &c., dealt with at
the station on account of vermin was 10,730, 2,590 articles were
washed and 1,423 destroyed.
In dealing with verminous conditions, 293 visits were paid by the
Disinfecting Superintendent. Eight notices were served at the instance
of the Sanitary Inspectors, with reference to bedding, &c., in a filthy
condition. (General Powers Act, 1904, Section 19 (1).)
Motor Disinfecting Van.—During 1915 the van was used on 286 days,
during which it ran 4,740 miles. It consumed 460 gallons of petrol
(10.3 miles per gallon), and carried 156 tons 173/4 cwt. of material. The
maximum amount carried on any one day was 30 cwt.; the average
daily load was 101/2 cwt.
During 22 days when the motor was being overhauled, 7 tons
13 cwt. were dealt with by horse-van.
