Common Lodging houses.
The total common lodging-house accommodation available is now
2,255 beds for men, 62 for women.
Deaths.—77 deaths (76 males and 1 female) occurred in 1912 among
inmates of the common lodging-houses and shelters in the City. 30 of
the deaths were due to phthisis, 15 to respiratory diseases, 10 to nervous
diseases, 7 to diseases of the heart and blood vessels, 3 to cancer, and 2
to kidney disease. There were 35 deaths from St. John's Ward. 8 from
Covent Garden, and 34 from Strand.
The following is a list of the
common lodging-houses in Westminster, the number for which they
were licensed, and the number of deaths which occurred during the
last four years among persons alleged to have been inmates:—

In addition, 1 death was recorded of a former inmate of the common
lodging-house—107, Wardour Street, the use of which as a common
lodging-house has been discontinued.
Tuberculosis.—105 new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis (9 being
women) were notified from common lodging-houses or as being
homeless:—
