Annual Report on the Health and Sanitary
Condition of the City of Westminster.

of the City of Westminster.
Me. Mayor, my Lord and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit to you my Annual Report for the
year 1911.
Returns required by the Local Government Board, and particulars
relating to Factories and Workshops required by the Home
Office, are incorporated therein.
Notwithstanding the prolonged spell of hot weather which occurred
in 1911, the health of Westminster as shown by the mortality maintained
its high position. Since the formation of the City there has
been a progressive improvement in the death-rate. In the previous
10 years the death-rate averaged 18 per 1,000 inhabitants, in the last
10 years the average was 13.6, and in the last 5 years 12.8. Infantile
deaths which had been for many years about 164 per 1,000 births have
fallen to 115 during the last 10 years. Deaths from tuberculous disease
have decreased in number from 413 to 238 (2.26 to 1.49 per 1,000).
