Area No. 7 contains a common lodging-house with 87 beds and
8 deaths, amended for these the rate for No. 7 equals 290.
The occupations with which these persons were directly or
indirectly connected were tailoring (8 deaths), porters (7), clerks (5),
warehousemen (3), housekeeping (3), domestic servants (3), waiters (2),
public-house (2), stage carpenters (2), bootmakers (2), the remaining
deaths being distributed among a variety of occupations, one to each.
The proportion of small tenements are given to show the relation to
the tubercular rate.

Great Marlborough Wardincludes the remaining enumeration areas in St. James' district, viz., Nos.6, 8,and 9. The rates were:—

Certain streets in this ward have contributed largely to these
rates:—Portland Street, with 35 houses, had 9 deaths; Broad Street,
7 deaths; Livonia Street, 14 houses, 5 deaths; Carnaby Street, 58
houses, 4 deaths; Canton Street, 26 houses, 4 deaths; Berwick Street,
62 houses, 4 deaths. Fifteen of the deaths were in tailors' families,
5 porters, 3 engravers'.
In these two wards more than two-thirds of the families live in
tenements of less than 5 rooms.
