The total births reckoned on the number of married females
(between the ages of 15 and 45) work out at 236 per thousand for
London and 178 for the City of Westminster. In 1891 the rates
were 259 and 210, and in 1881, 283 and 238 respectively, so that
there has been actually a very considerable decrease in the number
of children born per family.
Deaths.
2,998 deaths were registered in the City in the 52 weeks ending
28th December, 1901. After deducting the deaths of 1,019 noncitizens
in public institutions in the City, and adding those of
921 citizens who died in other districts, the corrected total is 2,900,
and is equivalent to an annual rate of 15.6 per thousand persons.
The London death-rate for the same period was 17.1.
