From Table IV. we see that the number of births in the
Parish was 1,295, and that the birth-rate was 15*97 per
thousand per annum, as against 16.69 in 1899.
The birth-rate for London proper was 28 6, " the lowest
London birth-rate on record," as against 29*4 in 1899 and
29-5 in 1898.
The average birth-rate of the 33 largest English towns
was 29 4 against 30 2 in 1889; the highest being those of
Bolton 34 7, Sunderland 35*8, Liverpool 36 0, and Gateshead
36'3; and the lowest those of Croydon 24 9, Oldham
24'1, Brighton 23'6, Bradford 23'1, Halifax 23'1, and Huddersfield
22 8.
The number of deaths of Parishioners under one year of
age, including those dying outside the Parish (see Table A
at end of report) was 146 ; the percentage of such deaths
to registered births was 1127, and to total deaths of
parishioners, 12'81 ; thus the mortality of children under
one year of age was only 113 to a thousand births, while
in London generally it was 160, and the average for the 33
