deaths of 12 98: thus the mortality of children under one
year of age was 140 to a thousand births; whereas in
London generally it was 146, and the average number for
the 28 largest English Towns was 154, the highest being
Preston with 188; Blackburn with 190; and Leicester
with 200, deaths of children under one year of age to a
thousand births.

From Table III. we find that there were 541 deaths of
persons aged 60 years and upwards, giving a percentage of
29.77 of the gross total of deaths, as against a percentage
for London generally of only 22.36. This shows a high
percentage of persons living over 60 years of age in the
Parish, and if we consider the proportion of the deaths of
such persons to the population we find that it is only 60.4
per thousand persons living as against 68'4 in London
generally, and 72.7 in the 28 largest towns, the lowest being
Derby, 63.8; Leicester, 65.5; and Brighton, 66.2; and the
