The total area of streets rolled has been about 237,349
superficial yards, part of which has been done by hired
rollers.
Wood Pavement.
Piccadilly.
The wood pavement laid in Piccadilly by the Improved
Wood Pavement Company in 1873, and subsequently, has
worn exceedingly well. The pavement generally is in excellent
condition. Owing to a leakage in one of the waterservice
pipes, the foundation of that portion of the pavement
between Park Lane and Hamilton Place was partly washed
away. The pavement itself, however, was in perfectly good
condition; but the entire portion has been relaid by the
Company at their own expense.
Park Street.
The Improved Wood Pavement Company have laid
down in August, '76, about 1,117 yards of their pavement
in Park Street, between Mount Street and Grosvenor
Street, at a cost of £837 15s.; the expense of which was
paid by His Grace the Duke of Westminster.
Victoria Station.
I may also mention that the specimen piece of wood
pavement laid in the Wilton Road, at the entrance to
Victoria Station, in December, '75, although subject to
considerable traffic, shows scarcely any perceptible signs of
wear.
