Sale and Purchase of Little Chelsea Workhouse.
The Board of Guardians, having declined to seal the
Agreement, which had been arranged by the Solicitors for the
two bodies, concerned, for the purchase of this workhouse for
the sum of £40,000, the consideration of the matter has
been postponed by the Vestry until October next.
Extension of Chelsea Embankment.
The Vestry, in October, 1876, hearing that the Metropolitan
Board of Works were about to bring a Bill into
Parliament for extending the Thames Embankment to
Westminster, again resolved to memorialize the Board to
take advantage of the opportunity of including in the Bill
powers for completing the Embankment and Roadway up
to the Chelsea Suspension Bridge. The Memorial was
presented by Deputation to the Board, and subsequently
a reply was received, stating that the Board, having considered
the Memorial, was unable to accede to the request
contained therein.
The Vestry then again, by letter, urged a reconsideration
of this decision, more especially with regard to the continuation
of the paved footway and the lighting, but they
regret to have to report that the Board again declined to
accede to their request.
The Vestry, after the failure of these efforts, fixed four
additional lamps on the portion of the embankment between
the boundary of the parish and the Chelsea Suspension
Bridge, which are lighted at the parish expense.
