Dwellings' Improvement Act, 1875,' the
Metropolitan Board of Works be respectfully
urged not to contribute to the Commissioners
of Sewers of the City of
London, any sum of money towards improvements
in the City."
New Valuation List.
The New Valuation List prepared in accordance with
the Valuation Act, (Metropolis) 1869, was deposited on
the 31st May, 1875, as required by the Act.
The List was prepared by a Committee of Vestry,
acting in conjunction with the four Overseers.
Messrs. Castle & Son, of Chancery Lane, were
employed to re-value the Gas and Water and Railway
Companies properties in the parish, as well as the New
Western Pumping Station, belonging to the Metropolitan
Board of Works.
The List contains 11,241 assessments.
The totals of the first Valuation List, made under the
provisions of the Valuation Act, in 1870, were, after appeal,
gross value, £1,641,449 ; rateable value, £1,368,999.
The totals of the new List, made in 1875, after appeal,
are, gross value, £1,794,292; rateable value, £1,499,954,
an increase of £152,843 gross value, and £130,955
rateable value.
There were 5 appeals to Special Sessions, and 7 to
General Assessment Sessions. Of the appeals to Special
Sessions, 2 were allowed by the Justices and 3 were
dismissed; of the appeals to the Assessment Sessions, 2
were abandoned by the appellants on going into Court,
