Year. | Deaths. |
---|---|
1863 | 1,882 |
1864 | 2,054 |
1865 | 2,015 |
1866 | 2,030 |
1867 | 1,914 |
Therefore, the deaths (1,829) are the lowest which have happened during the past nine years. It is also worthy of note that the deaths of non-parishioners in St. George's Hospital during the same period exceed those of previous years (see following table), which still further lessens the number of deaths
1858 | 255 |
1859 | 251 |
1860 | 243 |
1861 | 263 |
1862 | 243 |
1868 | 253 |
1864 | 260 |
1865 | 264 |
1866 | 271 |
1867 | 259 |
1868 | 300 |
In estimating the gross death-rate we must not forget
how mnch the population of the parish increased between
1851 and 1861, and that it was increasing at the rate of
1,500 per annum in the Belgrave Sub-District up to 1864;
bo that, estimating the population at 91,500, the gross
death-rate was 19'5 per 1,000 living; but, deducting the
deaths (299) of non-parishioners at St. George's Hospital,
the death rate at home was 16-7 per 1,000,
