Mr Lords and Gentlemen,
In presenting the Annual Report of the sanitary
condition of the Parish for the year ending March 28th,
1868, permit me to remind you that I have only just been
appointed sole Medical Officer of Health, and have been
somewhat suddenly called upon to perform a duty for which
I might otherwise have been better prepared.
Births, Mortality, Death-rate, and Sickness.
The number of births in the whole Parish was 2,335.
The number of deaths registered in the parish between
the 30th of March, 1867, and the 28th of March, 1868,
amounted to 1,829, including those of 300 non-parishioners
in St. George's Hospital, 90 in the Workhouse, Mount
Street, and 43 in Little Chelsea Workhouse.
The following table shows the gross number of deaths which have occurred in the Parish for the last nine years.

---|---|
1859 | 1,838 |
1860 | 1,837 |
