CASEOUS LYMPHADENTITIS IN SHEEP.
In July it was found that in sheep imported from Patagonia and Chili, a number were suffering from the above disease, and that a large amount of this
mutton was in cold storage in this district. On August 5th, Sir Gordon Campbell and representatives from Patagonia and Chili met at the cold store to
see the method of examination.
It was found that 40,000 carcases were still in store. These had to be partly defrosted and each carcase examined by cutting to expose the glands
Additional help being provided, these carcases were examined under the super- vision of Mr. Duffield at the rate of 2,000 a day. A total of 41,086 carcases
were examined of which 2,600 proved to be diseased. The latter were released to the Smithfield Animal Products Co., Stratford, for commercial purposes.
