BIRTHS.
The number of Births registered in the Borough during 1927 was
3,065, of which 1,618 were males, and 1,447 females. This represents a
birth-rate of 16.6 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births registered in the individual parishes was as
follows:—Newington, 1,708; St. George the Martyr, 740; Christchurch
and St. Saviour's, 617.
Of the 3,065 births registered in the Borough 239 were transferred
away, the permanent residence of the parents being outside the Borough.
682 births occurring in various lying-in and other institutions outside
the Borough, but belonging to Southwark parents, were notified to me by
the Registrar-General. When the 239 "outward" transfers are deducted
