DIARRHOEA.
There has been an increase in the number of deaths from Diarrhræa
in the year under consideration, although it is far below the average for
the last ten years.
We continue to distribute a circular during the summer months to
all the houses of the Borough, setting out the necessity of breast feeding
babies, and the keeping of the home free from dirt; also that all refuse
and rubbish should as far as possible be burnt, that all articles of food in
any way unsound should not be eaten, and that all water for drinking
purposes should be drawn from the tap which is fixed on the main supply
pipe.
The attention given by the lady inspectors to these cases and the
advice given by them to mothers I believe are attended by excellent
results.
The annual death-rate from Diarrhsea per 1,000 living was 0.87.
