It will be observed that the attendance per session has been lowered
from 17 to 13. This, as I explained in my last report, is necessary to
give time for the conservative work done.
A considerable increase in the number of new patients will be noted.
This, again, is a very good sign, and coupled with the fact that old patients
return for further treatment when necessary, signifies that our efforts
are successful.
As far as other items of treatment are concerned, our figures compare
very favourably with those of 1935.
A considerable number of dentures has been fitted, and in this connection
I may add that we supply dentures at a figure very considerably
below hospital prices.
Even so, in many cases the cost is beyond the means of some of our
patients.
I should be glad if I may take this opportunity of thanking again all
those whose help and co-operation in running the dental clinic is so
very valuable to me.
C. HAMMOND WILLIAMS,
L.D.S., R.C.S. (Eng.).
Supply of Milk to Expectant Mothers.
In the early part of the year the Council, upon the recommendation
of the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee, resolved that in addition
to supplying milk during the last three months of pregnancy, milk be
supplied to those expectant mothers coming within the Council's scale
at any period of pregnancy when specially recommended by Clinic
Medical Officers.
Free Milk Scheme.
Milk is supplied to expectant and nursing mothers and to children
under 3 years of age (in special circumstances 5 years).
Dried milk is supplied under the scheme, with the exception that
Tuberculin Tested milk is supplied in special cases (infants) where the
Medical Officers in charge of the Council's Child Welfare Clinics consider
its use specially desirable.
It is a condition of the supply of free milk that unless prevented on
medical grounds, all recipients should be seen at regular intervals at their
nearest Maternity and Child Welfare Centre.
