Maternity and Child Welfare Dental Clinic.
During the latter part of the year the Dentist, Mr. C. Hammond
Williams, suggested that the number of sessions be increased to two
weekly in place of the present sessions, viz., every Wednesday and first
and third Mondays of each month.
Mr. Williams pointed out that with the greater average attendance
per session less work was actually done per patient. Numbers of
temporary teeth of children had now to be either extracted or left (only
to be extracted later on) because there was not time to save them by filling,
and it was suggested that the additional sessions be devoted primarily to
the conservation of teeth.
It was therefore agreed that commencing on Ist January, 1936.
sessions be held every Tuesday and Wednesday morning. (This is referred
to in the report of the Dental Surgeon below.)
In order to allow the same Health Visitor to continue at the Dental
Clinic, two of the Health Visiting Districts were slightly altered.
Mr. C. Hammond Williams, L.D.S., R.C.S. (Eng.), the Dental
Surgeon in charge of the Dental Clinic, has submitted the following
report:—
I beg to submit my annual report of the work carried out at the
Maternity and Child Welfare Dental Clinic for 1935.
74 Sessions have been held.
1,276 Total attendances.
372 New Patients have been treated.
106 Fillings.
147 Scalings.
51 Permanent teeth extracted under local anaesthesia.
1,303 Permanent teeth extracted under nitrous oxide anaesthesia.
1,333 Temporary teeth extracted under ethyl chloride
anaesthesia.
The number of extractions under nitrous oxide is the only figure, as
far as treatment is concerned, which shows a decrease from 1934. In
other forms of treatment our figures show a definite increase.
