milk, originally abundant and nourishing, is failing in quality or quantity.
The truth is that the original weight was much under-estimated. Why
well-nourished babies are commonly recorded as weighing much more
than they do weigh, and small ones much less, is an interesting problem.
There is perhaps some subtle flattery implied in the exaggerations. There
is at any rate no doubt that the errors are too common to be accidental.
As with records of a feverish patient's temperature, unreliable data are
worse than none.

REPORT ON MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE DENTAL
CLINIC FOR THE YEAR 1924.
The Medical Officer of Health,
Borough of Poplar.
Sir,
I beg to submit my Annual Report of Dental Work at the Maternity
and Child Welfare Dental Clinic for the year 1924.
On reference to the summary herewith, a considerable growth in all
branches of the work is apparent.
The number of attendances per session has increased so much that
the two hours allotted is seldom sufficient to do all one would like. In
fact, it is becoming the rule for the session to extend fifteen to thirty
minutes over the scheduled time.
There can be little doubt that the work is being appreciated by those
attending; in fact, the number of patients attending for preventive
treatment, i.e., before actual pain is experienced, is increasing noticeably.
Dentures are being supplied at a very moderate cost, though just
recently some cases have been held up, and the work somewhat protracted.
This has been due to the fact that sickness among the staff has somewhat
handicapped the running of my workshops.
May I again take the opportunity of thanking all those with whom
I come in contact for their help and assistance in the efficient working of
the Clinic.
I have the honour Sir, to remain,
Your obedient Servant,
C. HAMMOND WILLIAMS, L.D.S., R.C.S., Eng.
