The following unsound foods were dealt with during the year:—
Two barrels of grapes, condemned, destroyed and certificates of
unfitness for human food given.
Housing Town Planning, etc. Act.
6 Houses have been permanently closed under the Act.
Three houses were closed by closing order and reopened on the necessary
repairs being executed. On the three houses being closed by order the
freeholder immediately insisted on 18 other houses being put into a
satisfactory condition. The houses were therefore closed and put in
good order.
Verminous Rooms.
16 verminous rooms have been cleansed under the provisions of the
London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1902.
Milkshops and Cowsheds.
The milkshops and cowsheds have given no cause for complaint; the
cowsheds were limewhited and cleansed twice during the year, in accordance
with the provisions of the Dairy and Cowsheds orders, and the milk
vessels and measures of the various milk vendors were generally satisfactory.
It is regrettable that with all the legislation in force and
proposed for the purpose of securing a clean and wholesome milk supply,
nothing is yet attempted in the direction of compelling the masses to
provide clean and suitable utensils for the reception of the milk from the
milkman's hand. A casual observation of the receptacles for milk used
by the people in the poorer districts is sufficient to convince the observer
of the futility of much of our work to secure a pure milk supply to the
masses.
Food and Drugs Acts.
Under the Sale of Food and Drugs Acts fifty-one varied samples have
been purchased and submitted to the Public Analyst for analysis. On
analysis one was found to be adulterated.
Milk.—Deficient in solids not fat to the extent of 5.8 per cent.
Letter of caution to vendor as directed by Public Health Committee.
