The Works Committee and Conference of Metropolitan Borough
Councils re use of Mechanically-Propelled Vehicles on
Unsafe or Unsuitable Roads.
At the Conference of Metropolitan Borough Councils held on the
6th February, at which the Council was represented, the following resolutions
were adopted, viz.:—
"That the proprietors of mechanically-propelled vehicles
using the main and other roads in the County of London should, by
means of the Petrol Tax and other duties levied on each vehicle
be brought under contribution for the repair and upkeep of the
roads over which they travel in Metropolitan Boroughs.
"That the Borough Councils should have a veto on the use of
mechanically-propelled vehicles on roads which, in their opinion,
were unsafe or otherwise unsuitable for such traffic."
The Works Committee recommended the Council that the resolutions
of the Conference be approved and supported.
Works Committee and Caution Notices to Motor Drivers near
Schools.
The Works Committee considered suggestions made at a meeting of
the Council that Caution Notices to Motor Drivers should be placed near
Schools adjacent to roads used by motor traffic, and directed communications
be addressed to the Motor Union, the Education Authority, and
the Police on the subject.
