From time to time the General Purposes Committee have considered
the matter of the provision of proper splash guards on motor omnibuses
(see Annual lieport, 1910, and 1912), and following up the subject
during the year 1912, the General Purposes Committee reported to the
Council:—
The following letter was received and considered by the General
Purposes Committee in reply to the resolution of the Council again urging
that the provision of efficient splash-guards for motor omnibuses should
be enforced by the Commissioner of Police, viz. :—
New Scotland Yard,
23rd January, 1912.
Re Splash Guards for Motor Omnibuses.
Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 19th instant, forwarding
particulars of splash-guards which have been submitted to the
Council, I am directed by the Commissioner of Police of the
Metropolis to acquaint you that, as previously intimated, he is
prepared to allow a proprietor, if he so desires, to fit any form of
splash guard which can be used without danger or inconvenience
to the public, but he sees no reason to depart from the intention
he has already expressed.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
C. W. HALLWARD,
Acting Chief Clerk.
The Town Clerk,
Metropolitan Borough of Poplar.
