Suggested Use of Electrolytic Fluid for Sprinkling the
Floors of Class-rooms of the London County
Council Schools.
The following are copies of letters sent to the London County Council
(Education Department) under the directions of the Public Health and
Housing Committee:—
Council Offices, Poplar,
29th September, 1909.
Sir,—
The Public Health and Housing Committee have had under
consideration the question of the possibility of the spread of
infectious disease by means of dust raised in school rooms by the
movements of the children, and they are advised this is a probable
source of infection.
On the 26th September, 1906, an offer was made to the
London County Council by this Council, but not then accepted, to
deliver, free of cost, supplies of disinfectant for use in the schools
in the Borough.
I am directed to suggest that, experimentally, supplies of the
disinfectant should be accepted for use in sprinkling the floors in
six selected schools in the Borough, and the effect on the condition
of the children and their attendance noted. I am to add that the
Public Health and Housing Committee will be prepared to recommend
the Council to renew its offer of September, 1906, to supply
the disinfectant, with instructions for use, free to all the schools in
the Borough, should the County Council desire to continue its use.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
(Signed) LEONARD POTTS, Town Clerk.
The Executive Officer,
Education Offices,
London County Council.
