No work was carried out then except to place two manholes in the street
for access and cleansing, but H.M. Office of Works pressed for re construction
and proposed to entirely redrain their own premises. Negotiations
were carried out on a suggestion of the Borough Surveyor that in
consideration of the diversion of the drain of No. 1, Duff Street, and the
demolition of the barrel by the Council, H.M. Office of Works should
relieve the Council of all liability in respect thereof, and construct the
new drainage of their premises at their own expense, and this was agreed
to on behalf of H.M. Office of Works.
The Borough Surveyor proposed to divert the drainage of No. 1, Duff
Street into the combined drainage system at No. 3, Duff Street, already
maintainable by the Council, and the owners concerned agreed to this
course.
The Public Health and Housing Committee were of opinion the
proposal of the Borough Surveyor should be adopted, and recommended
the Council:—
"That the drainage of No. 1, Duff Street be disconnected
from the brick barrel at the Mercantile Marine Offices, East India
Dock Eoad, and diverted into the combined drainage system of No.
3, Duff Street; and the brick barrel referred to be demolished."
COMBINED DRAINAGE.
