SEWERAGE AND DRAINAGE.
No. 1, Duff Street and the Mercantile Marine Offices.
In November, 1908, owing to trouble with the drains of No. 1, Duff
Street, which was traced on to the Mercantile Marine Offices, East India
Dock Road, H.M. Office of Works claimed the brick barrel, which took
the drainage of both premises, to be a sewer, and suggested the barrel
should be re-constructed throughout its entire length (140 feet) with
pipes. Upon examination the brickwork was found to be in fairly good
condition, though the flow, which was necessarily small, was sluggish.
