Dear Sir,—
Food and Drags Acts.—Butter and Margarine Mixture.
This Council have had under consideration reports from their
Food and Drugs Inspector with reference to the practice which is
becoming more prevalent, adopted by certain traders in this Borough,
of selling margarine under the title of "butter mixture." The
article of food when sold in this manner is enclosed in a magarine
wrapper, and generally contains from 5 to 10 per cent, of butter fat,
the remaining portion consisting of margarine, and it is the common
practice to charge Is. per lb. for the article, notwithstanding that
margarine can be purchased at a much lower rate. There is no
standard for "butter mixture."
