Smoke Nuisances.
Smoke nuisances arising within the district have been of a very minor
character. Only one case of nuisance occurred in the district arising from
without the district. Where nuisances have occurred intimation and
notice have been served and the nuisance abated thereon. Most of the
complaints seem to arise from some unexpected breakdown of a boiler or
careless stoking.
Only one smoke nuisance presented itself under the Highways and
Locomotives Act. A letter of caution was sent to the owners by the
Medical Officer of Health.
Canal Boats Acts and Regulations.
Under the Canal Boats Acts and Regulations 21 boats have been
examined. Of these 12 were registered and 9 non-registered. All the
registered canal boats, with one exception, were found in fair condition
and in compliance with the Acts and Regulations. In the case of one
registered canal boat the cabin was overcrowded. Letter was sent to
owner of boat.
No contravention of the Acts was discovered on any of the nonregistered
barges.
Demolitions.
Two very old, worn-out wooden houses, Nos. 6 and 7, Gandy Court,
each consisting of three rooms and wash-house, have been demolished as
being unsafe and not reasonably capable of being further repaired, and the
site cleared as the result.
