Accommodation for Persons Displaced.
The London County Council applied to the Local Government Board
to decide that a scheme was not necessary for providing new dwellings to
accommodate persons to be displaced in connection with the acquisition
of property in Bruce Road, Bromley—and property in other Boroughs—
over which compulsory powers were obtained for educational purposes in
the Sessions of 1904 and 1905.
The persons to be displaced in Bruce Road number 79, the rooms to
be demolished number 62, and the Council had ascertained there were
101 rooms vacant within a radius of a quarter of a mile, that the
accommodation was as good as, and in some cases better than, that
proposed to be destroyed, and that the persons to be displaced could
obtain similar accommodation in the immediate neighbourhood at the
same rents as they at present pay. It was further urged that the London
County Council had already provided dwellings containing accommodation
which had not been allocated to fulfil any obligations.
The proposal of the London County Council had been submitted by
the Local Government Board for the observations of the Borough Council.
The Public Health and Housing Committee were of opinion it was
not necessary for the London County Council to make special provision
for the persons to be displaced in Bruce Road, and recommended the
Council to concur in this opinion and the Local Government Board be so
informed.
International Housing Congress.
The International Housing Congress was held in London from
4th to 7th August, 1907.
