On the 31st October the Committee reported to the Council that they
had again considered the reference back to them of their recommendation
that no action should be taken on the proposal that an additional
Inspector of Houses Let in Lodgings should be appointed for the
Borough, and they did not agree that it was desirable such appointment
should be made.
Upon the reception of the Public Health and Housing Committee's
report an amendment was moved and seconded to add: "and that it be
referred to the Public Health and Housing Committee to reconsider the
question of the desirability of the appointment of an additional Inspector
of Houses Let in Lodgings, with instruction to submit an estimate of the
cost to the Borough of the appointment of such officer." A division
having been claimed and supported, the Council divided, when there
appeared for the amendment 17, and against the amendment 24. The
amendment was declared not carried. Another amendment was moved
and seconded to add: "and that it be an instruction to the Publio
Health and Housing Committee to appoint the present Inspectors as
Inspectors of Houses Let in Lodgings in addition to their present duties."
A division having been claimed and supported, the Council divided, when
there appeared for the amendment 18, against the amendment 20.
Amendment declared not carried.
Legal Proceedings.
Two landlords were summoned for not, within a period of 14 days
after being required by a notice in writing signed by the Town Clerk,
supplying the information necessary for the Registration of LodgingHouses.
A penalty of £2, with 23s. costs, was inflicted in one instance;
in the other case the information was received after issue of summons,
which was withdrawn upon payment of £2 4s. costs.
