The 1399 deaths in Poplar included 10 illegitimate children, 6 male and 4 female, and the 1432 deaths in Bromley included 12 illegitimate children, 4 male and 8 female.

The male births in the two parishes exceeded those of the female
by 72, but the male deaths exceeded those of the female by 191,
which makes a gain of 119 females.
At the end of the years 1898 and 1899 there was also an excess of
females.
