Of these births 79 were illegitimate in Poplar, 34 males and 45
females. In Bromley there were 35 illegitimate births 17 males and
18 females.
Of the 1994 births registered in Poplar, 62 occurred in the Poplar
Union Workhouse, and of the 2484 registered in Bromley, 4 occurred
in the Sick Asylum and 17 in the Stepney Union Workhouse.

During the year the marriages of 2360 persons were registered in
Poplar and Bromley, giving an annual rate of 18.3 per 1000 of the
estimated population, the rate for England and Wales being 16.0*
and for London 17.6.

In the 52 weeks 1074 deaths were registered in Poplar, and 2009
in Bromley; from the 1074 deaths which took place in Poplar there
must be deducted 58 deaths of non-residents, and to the remainder
must be added 383 deaths which occurred in outlying institutions,
making a total of 1399 deaths of Poplar parishioners. Treating the
2009 registered deaths in Bromley in the same manner, viz., deducting
752 deaths of non-parishioners and adding 175 deaths in outlying
