RAG FLOCK ACT.—Three (4) premises where filling material is
used were on the register at the end of the year. There are no
premises in the Borough where rag flock is manufactured or stored.
PHARMACY AND POISONS ACTS.—At the end of the year
the register contained the names of 88 (92) persons entitled to sell
the poisons scheduled in Part II of the Poisons List.
DRAINAGE RECONSTRUCTION PLANS.—During the year
242 (279) plans were deposited for drainage work in existing buildings.
PET ANIMALS ACT.—Four (4) applications for licences were
made and granted. All the applicants had held licences previously.
BURIALS.—During the year 38 (42) burials and 1 (2) cremations
were arranged under the National Assistance Act, 1948.
MORTUARY.—Bodies from Paddington are now taken to the
St. Pancras Borough Council mortuary when private arrangements
are not made. During the year 265 (285) bodies were taken there and
265 (284) post mortem examinations were carried out.
BAKEHOUSES.—The only remaining underground bakehouse
in the Borough closed during 1961. At the end of the year there
were 11 (12) level bakehouses in operation.
COMMON LODGING HOUSES.—There are no Common Lodging
Houses in the Borough.
FACTORIES.—The Public Health Inspectors made 211 (450)
visits to factories during the year. Further details of their work
in this connection are given in the annex to this Report.
OUTWORKERS.—The Public Health Inspector concerned visits
all notified outworkers to ensure that the premises are suitable for
the type of work carried out. During the year the inspector made
171 (262) visits and all the premises were found to be satisfactory.
Further details will be found in the annex to this Report.
MASS X-RAY.—Dr. G. Z. Brett, the Physician-in-Charge of the
Mass X-ray Unit, has reported that during 1961 the number of
people X-rayed in the Borough was 2,079. There was no case of
active tuberculosis ; one case of pulmonary tuberculosis under
observation was found.
Towards the end of the year the Borough Council staff and
employees were offered examination facilities and approximately
480 attended,
