MEDICINAL BATHS AND DISINFECTING STATION.—The figures below give a summary of the work done at the Medicinal Baths and by the Disinfecting and Disinfesting Operatives.

The staff of the medicinal baths and disinfecting service also
deal with the laundry and home bathing which is reported under
" Care of the Aged."
PROTECTIVE HELMETS.—During the year shops selling protective
helmets were visited and samples of the stocks were inspected
to ensure that the helmets had been certified by the British Standards
Institute.
Section 42 of the Road Traffic Act, 1956, makes it an offence
for helmets to be sold which are not of a type prescribed nor
authorised under Regulations made by the Minister of Transport.
The Motor Cycles (Protective Helmets) Regulations, 1957,
prescribe the British Standards for helmets.
No infringements of the Act were found.
HAIRDRESSERS AND BARBERS.—There are 94 (90) hairdressers
and barbers establishments in the Borough registered under
the London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1954.
SHOPS ACTS.—The Shops Acts Inspectors made 216 (452)
inspections during the year. No statutory action was necessary, any
contraventions found being dealt with informally.
