In addition to the above, seventy summonses were withdrawn
as the work was done before a hearing was reached. It appears
that more owners are ignoring notices when they are served and
only complying with them on receipt of a summons. The fines
imposed and costs awarded remain at a pre-war level.
FACTORIES.—The Public Health Inspectors made 450 (491)
visits to factories during the year. Further details of their work
in this connection are given in the annex of this Report.
OUTWORKERS.—The Public Health Inspector concerned visits
all notified outworkers to ensure that the premises are suitable for
the type of work carried out. During the year the inspector made
262 (100) visits and all the premises were found to be satisfactory.
