VITAL STATISTICS.
The Metropolitan Borough of Paddington as constituted under the London Government Act,
1899, covers an area of 1,356.1 acres, including 20.0 acres of waterways. It is co-extensive with the
Civil Parish and Registration District of the same name. The Borough is divided into nine wards.

POPULATION.
Estimated Population.—The resident population of the Borough at the middle of 1935 was
estimated by the Registrar-General to be 138,600 persons, 1,190 fewer than the number for the previous
year. The following table shows the population distributed among the Wards in the proportions
recorded at the Census of 1931. All rates for 1935 quoted in this report are based on these figures.

MARRIAGES.
According to provisional figures supplied by the Registrar-General 1,875 marriages were
solemnized in the Borough during 1935, being a rate of 27.0 persons per 1,000 of the population.
BIRTHS.
The number of births registered in the Borough during 1935 was 2,038. From this total it is
necessary to deduct 547 births which occurred to residents of other localities and to add 473 births
which occurred to Paddington residents outside the Borough. The corrected total of 1,964 births
thus obtained is equal to a rate of 14.17 per 1,000 of the population.
Of the 1,964 births, 977 were those of males and 987 those of females, and of these 125 males
and 128 females were illegitimate,
