*Including those specified in Sections 2,3,7 and 8 of the Factory and Workshop Act, 1901, as remediable under
the Public Health Acts.
At the end of the year 1931, 1,250 premises were on the Register as compared with 1,212
at the end of the year 1930. During the year 1932, 210 premises were removed from the
Register and 62 added, making the total at the end of the year, 1,102.
The Department reported the opening of 3 workshops to the Home Office, and received
from that Office, notice of 18, 15 of which were already known to the Department.
Homework (Outworkers).—Local employers of outworkers sent in 20 lists in February and
19 lists in August. These lists contained 242 names and addresses of which 219 were
forwarded to other districts. From other districts 292 addresses within the Borough were
received.
No instances were discovered during the year of outwork being carried on in unwholesome
premises (Section 108).
Supervision.—There were during the year, 2,772 inspections, comprising 989 of factories,
1,397 of workshops and 386 of workplaces.
There were 186 nuisances or defects found upon registered premises, all of which were
remedied during the year, the majority being remedied on verbal request. The defects
found are shown in the above Table.
The Home Office forwarded 8 complaints, which comprised:—

Bakehouses.—During the year four level bakehouses were opened, and 1 level and three
underground bakehouses were closed, the total number on the Register at the end of the year
being 62 of which 51 were factory bakehouses. The number of level bakehouses was 23 (13
being factories), and of underground 39 (37 being factories). The. total number of persons
working in bakehouses was 299, including 14 women and 25 individuals under the age of 18.
The bakehouses were inspected on 861 occasions during the year.
RAG FLOCK ACTS, 1911 and 1928.
The rag flock in use in the Borough appears to be well washed and free from dust. Two
samples were taken and were found to comply with the regulations applicable.
FOOD SUPERVISION.
Slaughterhouses.—There were, at the end of the year 1932, two slaughterhouses within
the Borough licensed by the London County Council:—
