POPULATION.
The Registrar-General's estimate of the population of the Borough for the year 1927 was
142,700.
It will be noticed that there has been a fall of 4,000 in the population according to the
Registrar-General's estimates. There has of course, in fact been no substantial change in the
population and it is evident that in the opinion of the Registrar-General the population has
been over-estimated since the last census in 1921. It is unfortunate that the RegistrarGeneral
does not furnish estimates that are consistent one year with another. Such widely
ranging estimates cause corresponding fluctuations in the death-rate arid birth-rate which
are more apparent than real.
The populations in the various wards have been estimated to be as shown in the following table:—
The Borough | 142,700 | |
Queen's Park | 15,588 | North Paddington 72,042 |
Harrow Road | 27,215 | |
Maida Vale | 21,860 | |
Town | 7,379 | |
Westbourne | 23,841 | South Paddington 70,658 |
Church | 17,302 | |
Lancaster Gate, West | 9,428
Lancaster Gate, East | 8,072
Hyde Park | 12,015 |
MARRIAGES.
During 1927, 1,602 marriages were solemnized in the Borough, being a rate of 22.4 persons
per 1,000 of the population.
