The mortality rate last year was 0.18 per 1,000 persons, as compared with 0.25 in 1913 and
an average (1909-13) of 0.24. (See below.) The rates for the Wards are shown in Table 21.

Table 11 shows that lower mortality rates were recorded in Kensington (0.04) and
Westminster (0.13).

Hospital Isolation.— In the early part of last year three patients suffering with whooping
cough, were admittted to one of the hospitals of the Metropolitan Asylums Board. After the
middle of June, however, the Board were unable to receive any further cases of this disease.
Seventeen patients received treatment in other institutions (including 11 in the Paddington
Infirmary). Among the 21 cases treated in institutions there were 9 deaths, equivalent to a
fatality of 42.8 per cent.; while the deaths among the patients nursed at home numbered 17,
giving a fatality of 3.1. (See below.)
