of the 38 being born in the Workhouse. From other parts of the Metropolis 39 such births
belonging to the Borough were reported to the Department, making the corrected total of such
births 172, 95 of the children being boys and 77 girls. The proportion of such births to the
corrected total of births was 5.7 per cent., an increase of 09 per cent, above the proportion for
1910 (4.8). The percentage of illegitimate births to total births in each Ward (Table 4)
varied from 10 per cent, in Hyde Park to 2.7 in Harrow Road. The corrected proportions for
the Registration Sub-Districts are—North, 4T, Central, 7'2, and South, 8"3 per cent.

Notification of Births.— Under the Notification of Births Act, 1907, adopted by the
Council towards the middle of 1908, the birth of every living child and that of every child born
dead after twenty-eight weeks' gestation has to be reported to the Medical Officer of Health
within thirty-six hours after the birth has taken place. Last year 2,910 notifications were received
relating to 2,782 births. In 1910 2,793 notifications were received covering 2,707 births. From
