DEAF REGISTER
Schoolchildren
Many children on the register have moderate hearing losses and manage in ordinary
schools with special measures such as favourable position in class or with a hearing
aid. Others who are deaf in one ear only compensate with the good ear and are not
handicapped. These children have not been assessed as needing special education.

SCHOOL MEDICAL INSPECTION
The figures provide an analysis of routine and non-routine medical inspections with,
for routine inspections, the percentage attendance of parents and care committee
representatives and the overall figures for prophylaxis. They also show the proportion
of children found with unsatisfactory physical conditions, and the percentage referred
for treatment of all defects, and of defects other than vision.
The statistics quoted in this section have been supplied by the Inner London
Education Authority and are based on a school roll of 43,808 as at May, 1969.
