SOCIAL WORK (SCHOOLS AND GENERAL)
Miss E. Stocker, Dips. Social Studies and Casework, A.A.P.S. W.,
Principal Social Worker
Social Workers
Are members of the health department team and provide a casework service. Family
caseworkers give help to families presenting multiple problems and concentrate on
prevention and rehabilitation. School health social workers are concerned with
socio/medical symptoms, work in school clinics (and one hospital out-patient clinic
where there is a special unit), and educational units for handicapped children. Some
work is undertaken in connection with specific health problems such as venereal
diseases and the follow-up of children referred to hospital. Social Workers are also
involved in hospital liaison arrangements, for example, with the Hearing Aid Centre
at the New Cross General Hospital.
Staff
Two members of staff, one family caseworker and one school health social worker,
were accepted for Applied Social Studies Courses in 1967, and one family caseworker
resigned to start her own family. The Assistant Principal Social Worker returned
after a successfully completed Applied Social Studies Course at Hull University.
