Medical Officer of Health. Patients attend twice a week by appointment
and receive treatment free of charge. All cases are examined
by the Doctor before treatment is commenced and patients are
encouraged to attend regularly for 6 weeks after which a rest of
4 weeks is given. Before a second or third course of treatment is
given, patients are again seen by the Doctor and their condition
noted.
254 patients were treated during the year, of which 250 were
children and 4 were mothers. 28 of the children were under 1 year
and 222 between the ages of 1 and 5 years. Of those under 1
year, 7 were treated with the Carbon Arc Lamp and 21 with the
Mercury Vapour. Of those over 1 year 193 were treated with the
Carbon Arc Lamp and 29 with the Mercury Vapour. The 4
mothers received treatment with the Mercury Vapour Lamp. The
total number of treatments given was 4,174, and as the number of
sessions held was 94, the average number of treatments per session
was 44.4.
The number of Doctor's consultations was 361.
The chief conditions treated were Rickets, Malnutrition, Anaemia,
Catarrhal conditions and debility after illnesses, chiefly of infectious
diseases.
