Extra Diet.—The Borough Council granted an allowance of
milk, butter and eggs to 15 tuberculous patients to enable them to
maintain their working capacity after return from Sanatorium.
Shelters.—The six shelters provided by the Borough Council
have been loaned to tuberculous patients having insufficient sleeping
accommodation and sufficient garden space for their erection.
Care Committee.--The Secretary of the Care Committee reports
that the Committee met 27 times during the year. The cases
considered for institutional treatment numbered 409. No assessment
is made, as all necessary institutional treatment is given free by the
London County Council, but 14 patients elected to contribute
towards the cost of their treatment and a sum of £52 7s. 4d. was
received from them and handed over to the London County Council.
Many necessitous patients and their families were helped in
various ways, such as provision of clothing and bedding, removal to
better accommodation, boarding out of child contacts, fares to visit
relatives undergoing treatment in a distant institution. Thus, 341
cases were considered for help, of whom, 171 received gifts of
clothing. The London County Council sent reports concerning 114
children undergoing institutional treatment and these reports were
communicated by the Care Committee to the parents.
The Care. Committee, in all, distributed help to the value of
£340, and at the end of the year the balance in hand of the
voluntary fund amounted to £272.
Handicrafts Class.—The large new room, where the Care
Committee holds its fortnightly meetings, makes an admirable workroom
for the handicrafts class, now in its eleventh year under the
same instructress. The value of this occupational therapy is very
considerable.
Tables A to E give in statistical form a summary of the work
carried out at the Dispensary. Appended is the Table required
annually by the Ministry of Health.
