Measles Epidemic.
In view of the anticipated biennial epidemic of measles, the
Council agreed to co-operate with the London County Council School
Medical Service in a scheme drawn up with the object of reducing
the mortality and mitigating the complications associated with measles
epidemics, by the prompt removal of cases to hospital, or by
providing nursing assistance in the home, according to circumstances.
The scheme may be briefly summarised as follows:—
The efforts of the school authorities are concentrated on obtaining
the earliest possible information of cases of measles or suspected
measles and suspicious absentees. This information is immediately
transmitted to the Public Health Department of the Council and the
homes are visited by health visitors who arrange for removal to
hospital or domiciliary nursing assistance as circumstances dictate.
A similar scheme was put into operation during the epidemic
which occurred in the winters of 1929-30, 1931-32, 1933-34 and
proved of great assistance.
