Violence and Suicide.—The deaths from violence numbered
53, and from Suicide, 16. Nineteen of the deaths in the former
category were the result of injuries sustained in street accidents.
Tuberculosis.—The mortality from this disease is dealt
with in the Section relating to Infectious Diseases.
Infant Mortality.—The number of infants who died before
reaching the age of one year was 160, compared with 146 in the
previous year, and the infant mortality rate was 55 per thousand
births. According to a return published by the Registrar-General,
only two Boroughs in the Metropolis recorded a slightly lower
infant mortality rate. In the whole of the County of London
the rate was 67 per thousand births.
The infant mortality rate during the last ten years is set
out in the following Table 8, and in detail for the year under
review in Table 9:—
