The drainage and plumbing is checked as the work proceeds and during
the year there were 828 premises in which such work was being carried out.
When buildings are demolished efforts are made to trace and properly seal
off all disused drains. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food requested
local authorities during the year to give priority to the work as it is an important
aspect of rodent control.
During the year 226 drains were sealed.
