Due to development which had taken place at Bishop Thomas Grant
School and in the area of Etherstone Green it was found necessary to enlarge
the sewers in parts of Oakdale Road and Valley Road. The works were commenced
in January, 1971, and completed in April, 1971, at a cost of £20,000 approximately.
Work has commenced on relaying the sewers in Heybridge Avenue and the
remaining length of Streatham Common South. The contract sum is £77,000.
The site works commenced in January, 1972, and are estimated to take nine
months. The works are necessary due to the poor condition of the existing sewers.
A length of the sewer in Stockwell Park Road was relaid in March, 1971, at
a cost of £3,800 and a short length of sewer was diverted at the rear of No's 34.44
(even) Gipsy Hill, for a cost of £1,800 during the same month.
Following the television inspection, other schemes are being prepared for
the renewal of sewers in various parts of the Borough. The programme of
redevelopment is not having such a large impact this year as it did last year.
