PUBLIC HEALTH ACT 1936 - SECTIONS 39 and 45
PUBLIC HEALTH ACT 1961-SECTIONS 17 and 18
Work required to be done tor Drains, Sanitary Conveniences and premises.
Consequent upon Notices served by the Public Health Inspectors, the Council,
in pursuance of their powers under the above Acts, carried out works in default in
36 cases.
SEALING OF DISUSED DRAINS
Many infestations erf rats can be traced to dis-used drains from demolished
property not being properly sealed from the sewer. In many cases there are no
drainage plans of these old premises and it is a long and tedious job to trace the
run of the drains. To assist in this work, a Technical Assistant (Drainage) was
appointed in September, and an organisation has been set up to make sure that all
disused drains are sealed as near to the sewer as possible when premises are being
demolished.
56 drains were sealed under the supervision of the drainage assistant
75 drainage systems were tested in respect of new premises and
37 tested in existing premises.
