GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE AREA
CARE OF THE AGED
This work continued to expand, and the number of visits made by the three
visitors increased by 771.
During the year 1,042 new cases were brought to the notice of the Health
Department, an increase of 76 over the number of new cases for 1965.
The age groups into which these new cases were divided were as follows:-

The total number of visits made during the year was 8,699. |
The number of old people persuaded to enter hospitals or institutions
voluntarily was 316. One person was removed to an institution by a Court Order
under Section 47 of the National Assistance Act 1948.
In addition a total of 2,885 persons received help in some form or another.
The number of cases on the register, including those from previous years is
4,528.
LAUNDRY SERVICE FOR AGED INCONTINENT
The arrangements made with Southwark Borough Council for carrying out this
service continued during the year.
The total number of persons receiving benefit from the scheme during the year
was 277 (240). The total visits made were 5,986 (4,574) and the total number of
soiled articles collected and taken to Southwark Cleansing Station was 62,938
(52,814). The total weight of the laundry cleansed was 53,105 (45,282) lbs. The
figures given in brackets are those for the year 1965.
