a result of the application from the Chamber of Commerce the general closing hours were

The responsibilities for these duties were passed to the General Purposes Inspectors at
the beginning of 1968. The Act and the Regulations made thereunder specify conditions and
prescribe certain standards to be observed.
14 visits were made and two informal samples were taken and contraventions were found in
relation to both. One offence related to the improper marking of flaked maize and the occupier
of the premises was given a verbal warning. In the other, a sample of bone meal, there was a
nitrogen deficiency. This case will be finalised in 1969.

Legal proceedings were instituted against one company for failing to furnish a statemen
as required under the provisions of the Act and a fine of £10 with £3 costs was imposed.
