Under the provisions of the London County Council (General Powers) Act 1921 (as amended),
Employment Agencies have to be licensed by the Local Authority. Minor infringements were
found and reaedied upon appropriate advice or warning being given.

The main purpose of licensing and inspection is to ensure that only suitable, and if
applicable, qualified persons carry on such businesses, to ensure that equipment is properly
maintained, and that the premises are conducted in a proper manner.
Infringements found were not such as to necessitate revocation of licences or the institution
of legal proceedings.

These Acts govern the closing hours of shops and the conditions of employment of the staff
engaged therein.
There is an Early Closing Day Exemption Order in force in the Borough in respect of all
non-food shops in the Nag's Head shopping area.
During the year applications were received from the Camden Passage Traders' Association
and the Hackney and District Chamber of Commerce for temporary suspension of general closing
